About this tradition

The Xiguiane is a Mozambican celebration of marriage — a gathering of family and community on the day after the wedding. Rooted in Tsonga tradition, it is a joyful reunion where the two families come together to welcome the couple into their new life. Guests are invited to sing, dance, share food, and offer blessings to the bride and groom. It is less formal than the wedding day — warmer, louder, and full of life. For those joining us from abroad, it is a rare and beautiful glimpse into our culture, and we are honoured to share it with you.

Jan 2019
A mutual friend's gathering. He had seen a picture of her before and always found her interesting. She just thought he was cute. They barely spoke. But something stayed. Maputo, Mozambique

Six months later, he sent her a message asking about her favourite book. She said Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. He read the whole thing just to have something to talk to her about. They didn't stop talking after that.

FAQ

We ask that you RSVP by 1st February 2027, three months before the wedding. The RSVP form will open on this website from November 2026.

Each event has its own dress code. Details will be confirmed and published on the individual event pages closer to the date. Please check back — we will give you plenty of notice.

Your invitation specifies whether a plus one is included. If you are unsure, please reach out to us directly and we will clarify for you.

The Wedding Day takes place at Vila Bonita Matola. Further details on the ceremony setup will follow in the formal invitation.

The Xiguiane is a Mozambican post-wedding celebration rooted in Tsonga tradition. Families and friends gather the day after the wedding to bless the couple with song, dance, and food. It is joyful, warm, and deeply meaningful to us. You can read more on the Xiguiane page.

Your presence is the greatest gift. If you would like to contribute something, details will be shared with close family closer to the date.

Yes. A full schedule for each event will be published on this site approximately three months before the wedding. We recommend checking back in early 2027.
