About this tradition
The Xiguiane is a Mozambican celebration of marriage — a gathering of family and community on the day after the wedding. At its heart is a deeply meaningful ceremony: the bride's family formally brings her to the groom's family, presenting her with all her belongings and officially welcoming her into her new home. It is in this moment that the two families truly become one. Filled with traditional song, dance, and joyful celebration, it is less formal than the wedding day — warmer, louder, and full of life. For those joining us from abroad, it is a rare and beautiful glimpse into our culture, and we are honoured to share it with you.

We ask that you RSVP by 1st February 2027, three months before the wedding. The RSVP form will open on this website from November 2026.
Each event has its own dress code. Details will be confirmed and published on the individual event pages closer to the date. Please check back — we will give you plenty of notice.
Your invitation specifies whether a plus one is included. If you are unsure, please reach out to us directly and we will clarify for you.
The Wedding Day takes place at Vila Bonita Matola. Further details on the ceremony setup will follow in the formal invitation.
The Xiguiane is a Mozambican post-wedding celebration. On the day after the wedding, the bride's family formally brings her to the groom's family — presenting her with all her belongings and welcoming her into her new home. The two families come together with traditional song, dance, food, and blessings. It is joyful, warm, and deeply meaningful to us. You can read more on the Xiguiane page.
Your presence is the greatest gift. If you would like to contribute something, details will be shared with close family closer to the date.

Visa Requirements
Most international guests will need a visa to enter Mozambique. The easiest option is the e-visa, applied for online before you travel.
evisa.gov.mzApply at least 8–12 weeks before your travel date.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
A single-entry tourist visa covers stays of up to 30 days.
Keep a printed copy of your e-visa with you when you travel.
Yellow Fever Certificate
If your itinerary passes through a country with active yellow fever risk — such as Kenya or Ethiopia — Mozambique may require proof of yellow fever vaccination on arrival. Check current requirements with your airline and the official health advisory for your country before travelling.
Getting to Maputo
There are no direct international flights to Maputo from most cities. The two main gateways are Johannesburg (OR Tambo) and Lisbon — both have onward connections to Maputo. Book each leg separately, particularly the final Johannesburg → Maputo segment with Airlink.

We recommend arriving by Wednesday 28 April if you are joining the Welcome Dinner, or Thursday 29 April at the latest.
On Arrival
Currency: Mozambican Metical (MZN). Cards are widely accepted in Maputo — including contactless, Apple Pay, and Google Pay at most restaurants, hotels, and shops. That said, carry around 2,500 MZN in cash for small payments, local markets, and taxis where card machines may not be available.
Time zone: Mozambique is UTC+2, year-round with no daylight saving.
Climate: Late April and early May in Maputo is post-rainy season — warm and sunny, typically 25–30°C. Light summer clothing is perfect.
Travel insurance: We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance including medical cover and trip cancellation.
